Staying Healthy
The following are simple ways to protect you from the flu and to help you stay healthy:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or upper sleeve.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Stay home if you get sick. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from spreading it to them. Also stay away from people who are sick. You may return to work or school at least 24 hours after your fever is gone.
- Get both the seasonal flu and the H1N1 flu vaccine. They will keep you healthy and fight off influenza.
- Find other healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety through exercise and a healthy diet.
